Energy Audits and Assessments

Energy audit is based on the Act No. 406/2000 as amended mandatory for entities which annual energy consumption is above a specified level. The specific form of the energy audit and energy assessment is determined by Regulation No.480/2012.

Physical and legal persons have obligation from the level of consumption of 35,000 GJ/year (9722 MWh). This number is calculated as the sum for all the buildings but applies only to individual buildings or individual energy units that have annual energy consumption greater than 700 GJ (197 MWh) per year. Specified in § 2 (1) of the Regulation.

Organizational units of government and non-profit organizations have the obligation from the consumption levels of 1,500 GJ/year (417 MWh). This number is calculated as the sum for all the buildings but applies only to individual buildings or individual energy units that have annual energy consumption greater than 700 GJ (197 MWh) per year. Specified in § 2 (2) of the Regulation.

This level varies depending on whether it is an organizational unit of the state (over 1500 GJ) or it is a physical or legal person except non-profit organizations with total annual energy consumption greater than 35,000 GJ for each separate object with consumption greater than 700 GJ per year.

Energy audit (or assessment) is also required for funds applications (state aid). Likewise, when requesting financial aid for the use of renewable resources.

Part of the energy audit is also the calculation of return on investments so that the investor receives relevant information about the project profitability.
